The Most Difficult Question

Description

Bryant Wright talks about how hard it is for us to understand when a person dies at an early age. But the key is to trust in God even when it doesn't make sense.

Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them. - Psalm 139:16

As a pastor, there is no more difficult situation than the death of a child. How can I possibly give a satisfactory answer to grieving parents who ask me why?

I know from a human perspective that it is very hard for us to understand when a person dies at an early age. The fact is, none of us knows the number of our days. Only God knows. We live in a fallen world contaminated by sin, and there are all kinds of innocent people who suffer because of that. Not all of us will live that full life of seventy years that Scripture talks about. For some it’s a few weeks; for some it’s ten years, forty, fifty, even a hundred years. By trusting that God has ordained the number of our days, we can recognize that even when a child goes to heaven—and be absolutely assured that children do go to heaven—we can find comfort in that. Can you imagine heaven without young children? There is an eternal purpose and plan that we are not able to understand completely on this side of heaven, but be assured that God has a perfect plan we will someday understand—in eternity. The key is to trust in God even when it doesn't make sense.
