Pastor Mark Jeske shares how there are so many places where the name of Jesus is not known. Thankfully, mass media is getting the gospel out into all kinds of new places!
Three days before He died, Jesus told his disciples, “The gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to the nations, and then the end will come.” Forgive me for my small-mindedness, but I had always thought that that seemed impossible. There are so many places in the world where Christianity has not come. For that matter, there are so many places right here in America where the name of Jesus is not known.
Mass media is sometimes considered immoral, and there is much truth to that scorn. One of Time of Grace’s media consultants was driving me around the San Fernando valley some months ago and he informed me that we were in the epicenter of the pornography industry. He said that the amount of money generated by that industry is approaching the amount generated by the “legitimate” Hollywood movie industry.
On the other hand, new media technology is also spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that early missionaries could never have envisioned. Here are four stories from Time of Grace that demonstrate the miracle of mass media:
1) A woman sent me a Facebook message from Anchorage to say how much she enjoyed the broadcasts. I assumed that she had a dish; she didn’t. We are on her cable package. At this time Time of Grace does not buy air time in Anchorage.
2) A man wrote from the Naples/Ft. Myers area to thank us for the program. At this time we don’t buy air time in that area.
3) Pastor Roger Plath, a Time of Grace prayer warrior, reports that he gets two prayer requests a week from India.
4) A family, shaken by their little daughter’s sudden onset of cancer, came into her hospital room at 2:00 a.m. The TV was on and Time of Grace’s program was showing with a message of encouragement that God is there in people’s darkest hours. We don’t buy air time at that hour in that market.
I am a little bewildered and a lot thrilled by those stories and dozens more about how mass media is getting the gospel out into all kinds of places. What a ride! My personal thanks and gratitude to all of you who advocate for Time of Grace or contribute towards our purchase of air time. Christian mass media rocks!
