Because the coming of the Lord is near, Christian arguments should be as calm and happy as possible!

In this portion of Philippians 4, Paul the Apostle was dealing with two women who were having an argument. He then gave advice on how to lower the tension of the argument.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!

 ⁵ Let your mildness of response be known to all men. The Lord is near. (Phil 4:4-5)

He told them to focus on the Lord and rejoice in him. If I am rejoicing in the Lord, it is a bit more difficult to stoke the fires of an argument. If I am truly rejoicing in the Lord that should make me happy, and happiness interferes with any argument. He further told them to make sure that others see how reasonable and calm they are. When people have a difference of opinion and they are reasonable and calm, it does not create disturbances and hurt other people's lives. Then, he said that the coming of the Lord is very near. His presence will certainly end any argument. He implied that in the middle of their argument Jesus might show up and ruin the whole thing. So Christian arguments should be as calm and happy as possible!
