The Little Ones

Jesus said the Kingdom of God was made up of those with childlike faith, and declared children of great worth.

Matthew 18:6 (NIV®)

“If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

You’d need a preacher to mess that up! Jesus couldn’t have made it any clearer: Do not cause trouble for one of these little people! No doubt the crowd that day struggled with what He was saying because they lived in a culture where children were considered laborers and were traded like cattle. Jesus introduced a dramatic shift in an ancient worldview when He said that children are valuable and deserve to be treated with dignity.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the children You have placed in our care. Thank You for the pure love they have for You. Help me to love You like they do. Thank You for the privilege of showing them what it means to be a Christ-follower, and help me to do well with that task. I ask it in the name of Jesus, amen.
