The Light and the Might of God

" ...The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do…"--(John 5:19, KJV). and, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in Him the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing"--(John 15:5, KJV).

In his helpful book, "The School of Obedience," the Reverend Andrew Murray refers to the Holy Spirit as "the light and the might of God". This is the beauty of God's transforming power. When the Spirit of God shines the LIGHT of God into the heart through the transmission of His living Word, then it is that the MIGHT of God brings it to life by grace unto the obedience of faith. And praise God, it doesn't end there. The regenerate soul goes on in the strength of the Lord from faith to faith, empowered by the Living God to live a life impossible with man, but possible with God. He learns to rely on the power of God day by day as Jesus did and affirmed.

The "light and the might" of God ignites and excites faith and obedience as it reveals to the soul just how incredibly and undeservedly he is loved - by a Sovereign God who made a way to "justify the ungodly" (Romans 5:6, KJV); by an Almighty God whose Son died for the world "while we were yet sinners" (Romans 5:8, KJV), and by an all-merciful God who reconciled us to himself "while we were yet enemies" (Romans 5:10, KJV). Truly such unreserved love and sacrifice demonstrated to us by the One true Living God deserves our unreserved faith, love and obedience in return.
