The Intersection of Passion and Trust: Where Generosity Goes Exponential

John Jackson explains how to nurture the growth of generosity for your organization.

I have the amazing joy to serve as the President of a Christian University. In that context, I am regularly casting vision, raising friends and funds, and a host of other duties. It is not uncommon for me to speak with our Chief Development Officer and his very capable team. At some point during almost every meeting, I will say, “the intersection of passion and trust is where generosity goes exponential.”

I believe that people give to what they are passionate about. People also give to people and organizations they trust. If I am passionate about something, but do not trust you or your organization, I’m not likely to give to or through you. If I trust you and your organization, but am not passionate about what you do, then I’m not likely to give much.  BUT, if I am passionate about what you do AND I trust you and your organization, I’m likely to give in an exponential fashion.

What are you and your organization doing to help me identify my passions and increase my trust in you? Giving goes exponential when that intersection is mapped and cultivated.
