The Gift to the Wise Men
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh (Matthew 2:10–11, NIV).
When we think of the wise men who visited Jesus, we normally picture the gifts they brought. But if you look closer, you will realize that the real story of the wise men is not just what they gave, but what they received. Look at what happened after they acknowledged the star that would lead them to Jesus: Matthew wrote, “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed!” You don’t have to be a Bible scholar to get it. They were filled with joy and emotion because they were going to do what all of us are created to do—meet the King of all kings. All they could do was submit to Jesus and worship their newfound King.
If you’ve never encountered Christ, the good news is that, today, He waits for you. He desires to give you a life of deep joy and satisfaction...with a big bonus: an eternity with Him. That’s the good news of Christmas.
And if you do know Christ, rejoice that every day you have the privilege of worshipping the King. And one day we will join the wise men and that everlasting throng that will worship Him forever as we see Him, the King of kings and Lord of all!
