The Crazy Cross
An advertising billboard on the moon makes more sense to many people than the Cross on Calvary. For many the Cross is a crazy thing. For them the Cross is a crazy and insane thing for God to do. It would have been more simple to put up a huge sign on the moon telling us to repent. Dying on a cross seems absurd. But it certainly was not absurd to God. Paul wrote about that.
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, that the cross of Christ should not be made void. For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside." (1Cor 1:17-19)
God decided to do what the intelligent and wise people would never accept: the Creator of all dying for his creation. It sounds crazy but a deep wisdom exists in it. The deep wisdom is that the cross really reveals the heart of God: how noble and loving it is. If the wise of the world deems such foolish and stupid, that then says more about them than it does about God.
