The Bigger Picture

Description

When you feel scared, lonely, or guilty, God’s grace reminds you that there is a much bigger picture than the one you can see.

Have you ever heard the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words?

At the best part of a roller coaster, there is always a camera that captures the moment. At the end of the ride, amusement park staff then try to sell it to you for $20. That photo tells you more about how scared or excited or sick to your stomach you were than if you tried to write a thousand-word essay about it. Still, that picture doesn’t tell you the whole story. What looks like a scared or angry face might just be a scream of happiness. The picture can tell me a lot, but it can’t tell me all about the ride. It just tells me about that moment.

I think we do the same with our lives. If you took a snapshot of one moment, it doesn’t tell the whole story. When you are feeling lonely, you might think that God doesn’t care about you or that he doesn’t take the time to notice little you. When you feel guilty, maybe you think God is angry and punishing you.

False! What’s true is that “the Lord, the Lord, [is] a compassionate and merciful God, patient, always faithful and ready to forgive. He continues to show his love to thousands of generations, forgiving wrongdoing, disobedience, and sin” (Exodus 34:6,7).

When you feel scared, lonely, or guilty, God’s grace reminds you that there is a bigger picture.
