I’m about to open a can of worms. Are you ready?
Believers love to quote the scripture, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37) And most want to believe what they read in Isaiah 61:1-3 and Luke 4:18-19. Those scriptures say that Jesus came to heal the broken-hearted, set the captives free, replace sorrow with joy and bring beauty where only ugliness existed before.
Yet when it comes to the Big Four Christians seem to doubt those scriptures. They feel and act in much the same way as non-believers. What are the Big Four? They are adultery, abuse, abandonment and addictions within the institution of marriage.
Sadly, many pastors and Christian counselors encourage divorce instead of reconciliation. It has become a very acceptable alternative even within the church. Marriage is seen more as a contract based on performance rather than an unconditional covenant based on grace.
“But Craig,” you say, “Why should I have to live like this? You have no idea what goes on behind the closed doors of our home.” Your right, I don’t. But I will tell you this; your situation is not unique. The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun. (Eccl. 1:9)
I told you I would be opening a can of worms. But it’s one that needs to be opened for the sake of our children and future generations. So please, if you or someone you know is facing divorce, don’t give up. “For with God nothing will be impossible.”
