The Best Way to Hear God’s Voice

Probably more often than not, the best way to hear God is to surround yourself with people who can speak His heart into your life.

Sometimes you just need to get away to spend time with God and hear from him. But when you’ve tried that and are still really seeking direction, try the opposite approach. Very often—probably more times than not—the best way to hear God is to surround yourself with people who can speak his heart into your life.

Here’s why: most people have a much easier time hearing God’s voice for other people than they do for themselves. This fits God’s tendency; he has rigged creation for us to be interdependent, which means he will never give us so much of what we need that we can get it all by ourselves.

That’s why no human being has every spiritual gift. We can’t fully experience his Spirit without being with other people.

We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. (Romans 12:5-6 nlt)

That means you speak God’s heart into the lives of other people, and they pour what he has given them into yours. That’s how it works. You may be able to clarify some issues when you get alone, and that's a normal instinct. But you can best hear his voice when you’re together. Surround yourself with people who have ears to hear him well.
