That's Why I'm Here

Description

Today, ask God to give you a “that’s why I’m here” moment. Then expect it. Watch for it. Listen. He will bring it.

The other day I took care of something for someone and they thanked me for it. My immediate response was, “That’s why I’m here.”

Later, I thought about that phrase. I said it because what I did for this person is exactly the kind of thing I believe God still allows me to keep taking up space on His planet to do. In reality, I didn’t do it for that person, even though they’re awesome—I did it for Him. The desire, motivation, drive, love, all came from Him, into my heart, and then back out again toward someone else. That’s that whole ”they will know us by our love” thing. It’s not really love for each other, it’s love for Him that overflows into love for others.

Here was my next thought . . . I would bet that the frustration in a lot of men’s lives is doing too many things that are not “why I’m here.” So, what do you do about that? How do you increase the “that’s why I’m here” activity?

First, the enemy isn’t stupid. You know, the one who doesn’t want us doing the God stuff. He’ll tell us things like, “Well, until you can do that full-time, don’t even try. Until you’re at that level, just wait.”

When I was in Christian music, almost every night, I’d have a starry-eyed person come up to me and ask, “How can I do what you do?” I said the same thing every night and they rarely wanted to hear it. “Just sing or play anywhere you can, free, paid, whatever. Eventually, being faithful in the small things will grow into the big. That’s how God works.” And today I would add, ‘Winning American Idol only happens to one person a year anyway.”

We don’t like having to walk through the “small stuff” years to get to the big platform, but that’s where the “that’s why I’m here” starts! And a “big platform” is all perception anyway.

Here’s the truth about “that’s why I’m here” moments. They’re available every day. God has them in His hand for us every single day.

They cost us $1, when we think we have to wait ‘til we have $100.

They take us an hour, when we think we have to wait ‘til we have all week. They happen in secret, while we’re waiting for someone to turn the spotlight on.

So, today, ask God to give you a “that’s why I’m here” moment. Then expect it. Watch for it. Listen. He will bring it. And when you connect? Tomorrow, He might just have two.

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” —Luke 16:10 NLT

“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” —Matthew 25:23 NLT
