Most of us would love to have a closer relationship with God. We would love to be on the same page, so to speak, as our sovereign creator. But none of us would try to convince ourselves that we could get closer to God without obeying his commands. We can’t say, “I want to grow spiritually, but I don’t really want to do what God tells me to do.” That’s a contradictory statement.
When God tells us in Malachi 3:10, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house,” He’s giving us a command. It’s not something that we can ignore and still hope to have a deep and mature relationship with God.
But there’s something else at the end of that command. There’s a challenge. “‘Test me in,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’” This is the one time in the Bible where God tells us to test him. And there is an important reason for that challenge.
The reality is that God wants you to experience those blessings. He wants to have a closer relationship with you. But it takes obedience on your part. Don’t ignore God’s command. Instead, obey God and discover the sweet spot of success, the zone, that God has in store for your life.
