Terrifying Dreams

Description

Lori Dixon shares what she does when she has bad dreams.

You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, (Psalm 91:5 ESV)

I woke up with a start and reached for my husband. He groggily acknowledged me as I asked him to pray over me. The dream and visuals had left me feeling vulnerable and in the presence of evil.

Dreams can just plain freak us out. They can. And do.

My friend, Moira, had recently told me about a time when she was held at gunpoint in Africa at a roadblock. She had supplied all the information the ‘officers’ had requested but yet they continued to question and harass her. Finally in desperation, she said, ‘Look, I am a Christian and I do not lie!’ The man stopped and asked her, ‘Are you covered in the blood of Jesus?’ When Moira said, ‘Yes!’ he immediately released her and allowed them to proceed up the road. There is power, protection and covering in Jesus’ blood! How this man understood this is amazing, but clearly he did.

So, as I lay there trying to fall back asleep after my bad dream, I repeated quietly, ‘I am covered and redeemed by the blood, and in the name of Jesus’ or something to that affect. Before I knew it I was snoozing and at peace.

If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (Proverbs 3:24 ESV)

When night terrors come to you, don’t lie and tremble, but instead claim the covering of the blood of Jesus! Your sleep will be sweet!

Father, we are thankful that You are a God who provides for our every need . .  . even a good night’s sleep! Help us to remember who we are in You and the protection and covering You provide. We claim peace over our hearts and mind, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
