Teachers Make a Haul
Description
Storm waters from Hurricane Sandy washed into Challenge Prep Charter School in Far Rockaway, N.Y., leaving fish and shrimp swimming in basement classrooms and books and supplies ruined on the first floor.
As in other U.S. disasters, World Vision brought its mobile teacher resource center to the school. Teachers were thrilled to choose from a wide array of school supplies, all for free.
“They gave us these huge bags that we got to fill up,” says Malissa Walker, an art teacher who had thrown away 300 damaged books. “We were all ecstatic! We were all smiling ear to ear going out there super excited to fill our bags with things that we really needed.”
World Vision’s mobile Teacher Resource Centers also distribute classroom supplies to U.S. teachers in schools serving low-income neighborhoods—everything from pencils and paper for students to books and resources for teachers.
