Take It to Jesus
Description
It doesn’t surprise me that Nicodemus went to Jesus at night. The most obvious reason was that he did not want other members of the Jewish council to know about his visit. Another possibility is that his thoughts/ worries/questions rose after dark, lifting and spreading like the glow of the moon. I’ve spent many a late hour lying in bed, thinking about the questions that are easy to brush aside during my busy day. Worried thoughts seem to multiply during the late-night hours.
Nicodemus didn’t sit in the darkness alone and try to figure everything out. Instead he went to Jesus. We can do the same. Jesus didn’t turn away Nicodemus’ questions. Jesus never does. Nicodemus knew a lot, but Jesus had something special to share: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
During his lifetime Nicodemus was pretty smart and highly respected, but when it came to trying to understanding Jesus’ Words, His miracles, and the new thing God was doing, Nicodemus was clueless. I’ve learned if I want to understand the things of God, the best place to go is to Jesus Himself. I do this through morning quiet times... and through late-night seeking and prayers.
FAITH STEP: What questions have you been brushing aside in the busyness of life? Take them to Jesus. He has good answers and will always have something special to share as you come to Him.
