For our strength to truly be sustained, we need way more than our morning coffee or soda.

Read: Psalm 143:1-12

While putting a cap on the amount of soda we drink is probably one of the healthier choices we can make, not everything is better in moderation. In fact, there is one thing that we could never drink too much of: the Word of the Lord. In Psalm 143, David says, “I thirst for you like a parched land.” David knows the Lord can meet every need he has, and he is yearning for a relationship with Him that will allow those needs to be met.

God’s word is our guide, and, like David, who earnestly sought to be in communication with God, we must use our Bible and prayer as our link to conversation with Him. Unlike sugary drinks, the Bible gives us nutrients. We do not need to ask for more cream or less sugar, because it is custom made perfectly for each of us every time we read and meditate upon it. The Word is life giving and sustaining. In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

For our strength to truly be sustained, we need way more than our morning coffee or soda. Being in constant contact with the Lord is what will guide us and keep us on level ground. Selecting a super-sized portion of God’s truth as we drink in the Word daily is the healthiest choice we can make.

  • Do you ask the Lord to refill you daily or are you thirsty?
  • What would an overflow of God’s love look like in your life?
