Studying for the Future

Sharmin, 17, is back in school after dropping out to help her mother make and sell cakes on the city roadside in a slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is working hard to reach her dream of becoming a police officer.

Says Sharmin, who now studies in grade 7: “I feel so blessed for getting the opportunity to start my studying again, and it was really not possible if the learning center of World Vision wasn’t there for street children and child laborers like me.”

As a youth representative for a local child labor prevention she inspires other working children to continue their studies. She also shares what she has learned on child rights and child protection issues with her community.
