Strong and Courageous
Joshua 1:9 (NIV®)
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Can you imagine the pressure Joshua felt when God recruited him to follow Moses? Moses spent so much time with God that he glowed in the dark! But Moses didn’t get the people into the Promised Land, and God said, “You’re up, Joshua. I want you to do what Moses couldn’t.” Why do you think God told him to be “strong and courageous”—seven times? I suspect it was because he was frightened and discouraged! God’s message to Joshua is just as relevant to the Church today. We need to show the same courage for our faith that we show in the pursuit of our professions, in the protection of our families, even in the defense of our favorite sports teams. Don’t let your greatest effort be directed at the secondary things of your life. Be strong and courageous for the Lord.
Heavenly Father, I want to be strong and courageous for You. Give me strength when I am weak and courage when I am afraid or losing heart. Give me discernment so that my priorities will be aligned with Yours, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
