Start from Scratch

Heavy rains have destroyed homes in the Jammu and Kashmir region of India, leaving many families with piles of rubble where their homes had been.

"I do not even have 10 rupees. What will I rebuild my house with?" asks Basheer Ahmed, 26. His home sheltered nine members including his parents and sisters. "Twelve of us are living in a small room occupied by my brother's family presently," says Basheer.

"I used to earn my livelihood through tailoring. Due to the floods, two of my tailoring machines are jammed. It washed away all the tailoring material I had," says Basheer. He had carried his tailoring machines to the second floor on hearing about the incoming flood through his radio, however the water level rose above it. "I have not had the time to repair my tailoring machines after the floods," he says.

For more than eight days, Basheer's family cleaned rubble from the house.

"I saved my wedding day video cassette as it was the most valuable object I had," says Basheer. The six months of food grain that was stored for the winters, has also been washed away.

World Vision distributed food, household goods, shelter material, and chlorine tablets to families affected by the floods.

Revelation 7:15 “…he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.”

Worship God, whose presence is our shelter.
