Start Each Day Seeking Wisdom

How can we live so that our choices are in agreement with what God has planned for us?

Sometimes I think I am a slow learner because I seem to make the same mistakes over and over. Maybe you can relate. The good news is that we are in good company.

We don’t have to search long in Scripture to find many examples of people who made poor choices. In Genesis 25:27-34, Esau sacrificed his future when his desires got the best of him. As a result, he sold his birthright to his brother Jacob for a bowl of stew. Each time I read this story, I am shocked and amazed. However, if I am honest with myself, I often make poor choices too.

How can we live so that our choices are in agreement with what God has planned for us? We have to ask for wisdom. If we seek wisdom, God has promised to give us wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6 says, For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.  Ecclesiastes 7:25 also says, I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things and to understand the stupidity of wickedness and the madness of folly.

Before we ask for wisdom, we must first desire wisdom over foolishness. We must want to live holy and blameless before God. How do we do this if we don’t have the desire to live holy and blameless before God? We ask Him for help. We need to start each day by seeking God and ask Him to give us a desire to walk with Him and make good choices throughout the day.

Are you willing to start your day by seeking God and asking Him for wisdom? The truth is, we can’t afford not to seek Him. When I reflect on my past, my greatest mistakes have been made as a result of not seeking Him and His wisdom.

Do you wonder what might have been if Esau had not sold his birthright? Well, for thousands of years we would have been praying to the God of Abraham, Issac and Esau instead of the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. That was one costly bowl of stew!

My prayer is that we will seek the Author of Wisdom and walk in His power, so that we can make good choices that glorify Him. Will you pray about this with me?
