Stand Up Anyway

It’s frightening to stand up for the Lord. But He blesses us when we do.

Psalm 145:6 (NIV®)

They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds.

Following God can be intimidating. I don’t like to be vulnerable, to be inadequate, to do the very best I can and still fall short because I don’t have the ability to deliver the goods. Week after week I say to people, “I believe God can change your life. He can bring strength to your body, heal your marriage, deliver your children.” On my best day, I can’t do any of those things. So I stand up as a representative for a product I can’t deliver. The temptation is to dial it back, water it down, don’t ask people to believe or to hope. It’s frightening to stand up for the Lord. I understand that. Let’s stand up anyway. He will bless us when we do.

Heavenly Father, You are great and greatly to be praised! You are mighty and powerful, yet full of mercy and lovingkindness toward Your children. How patient You are with me in my weakness. Give me courage to stand up for You and declare Your mighty works, believing Your promises for myself and for all who call out to You for mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
