1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV®)
Encourage one another and build each other up.
Unfortunately, many of us are trained to judge one another rather than encourage one another. I’m not advocating sloppy Christianity, but the reality is that none of us is perfect. I ran a 5K with a friend a few years ago, and I discovered that the encouragement of spectators along the way helped me cross the finish line. I tried to hold it together during the last fifty yards because I didn’t want to disappoint the complete strangers who were cheering me on! I discovered something that day: I like encouragement. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we as Christ-followers decided to be that kind of people, encouraging each other to persevere in the faith and cheering each other on toward the finish line? If you’re reading this today and you’re at the end of the rope, I want to say something to you––don’t stop. Finish the race!
Heavenly Father, You are faithful and constant, an ever-present encourager to me. I thank You that You are concerned for me and watching over my life. Help me to stay the course You have set for me and encourage others in their faith. And we will stand together and shout Your praises. In the name of Jesus, amen.
