Stages of Discipline

Set your children up for success for the rest of their lives.

Discipline your children while you still have the chance; indulging them destroys them. Proverbs 19:18 (The Message)

As moms, we have a short window of influence in their lives. Use this time wisely. No mom would ever want to destroy her child, but by allowing children to do whatever they want, whenever they want, invites destruction.

What stage of discipline are you in with your children?

Birth to 5 years - Set the foundation for your child’s life, teaching them you are the authority.  This stage is the best stage to instill the concept of authority and what submission looks like.

6-12 years- This stage you as a mom you are teaching the “why’s behind the no’s”. Your child can understand during these years of his life and you still have influence as a mom. Use this time wisely, instructing your child the “reason” behind discipline.

13-18 years- These are the coaching years. At this stage of your child’s life allow the consequences play out, whether good or bad. You, as the mom, are guiding your child at this point. Be diligent though, you are still the mom. Stay the course.

Take heart, Moms. Set your children up for success for the rest of their lives. What a huge gift you will be giving them.

Father, my motherly nature wants to give my children everything they want. Teach me how to provide what they need and to teach them to look to you to provide their wants. Amen
