Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:4
Everyone—despite background, economic status, political views, or even relationship with God—deals with pain. An overwhelming majority of people wake up every day and experience pain that neither hospital visits nor medications will help. Just because we may walk according to God’s will does not mean we will escape pain in life.
This reality contradicts our rational thinking, because we often associate pain with wrong doing or lack of faith. Yet, the promises of God sometimes include pain. But in the midst of pain, the truth is that God will also provide comfort to endure our circumstances, know God more intimately and help others in their times of trouble. It’s all a matter of trusting that God really does have a plan.
In the face of the pain you may be experiencing, pray that God gives you the strength to help someone else in pain. Pray that He grants you the ability to comfort others, just as He comforts you.
Consider those around you who may be in pain but who don’t have comfort. Take the opportunity to invite them to church with you, where they can discover comfort in times of pain.
