Spiritual Discipline
Description
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the Prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself (Daniel 1:8).
Think
Daniel is a great study in discipline. As a young man, he stood out among his peers. He was wise, knowledgeable, and focused on following God’s plan for his life.
When faced with a choice to follow the King rather than God, Daniel was not swayed by the allure of having what the King had to offer. Daniel chose discipline over dining, because he knew dining would defile him. Daniel understood that being disciplined spiritually would lead to better results. It was about making the decision before being presented with the choice. What decisions are you making that will help you stay focused on God’s plan for your life?
Pray
Ask for God’s help to be disciplined—physically, relationally, spiritually. Ask Him for the courage to make the right decisions before being presented with choices that not pleasing to Him.
Act
Follow Daniel’s example. Determine in your heart that you will not allow anything to defile you this week.
