He chose to give us birth through the word of truth…. James 1:18
Everyone has a physical birthday. But when the author of this verse wrote of a birth through the word of truth, he wasn’t referring to the day we arrived on earth. We have nothing to do with our first birthday. He was referring to the time when we choose to accept the truth of who Christ is—that is our spiritual birthday.
This rebirth is a life-changing event for those of us who have chosen to accept God’s truth and life. It is something we don’t deserve and can’t earn. It is something that is simply given to us from God because of his love for us.
Once we accept the truth that Christ is God’s Son, once we are “re-born,” we are adopted into the family of God, and we can then experience all that the Father has in store for us. Only then can we tap into the mighty power of God. And only then can we confidently face all that life brings.
Dear Lord, I know that there is nothing I can do on my own to earn your gift of salvation, or pay for all the wrong I’ve done. I accept your truth and the payment that your son, Jesus, made for me on the cross. Please come into my life, and change me. I want to experience the benefits of an eternity with you. Thank you for this gift and for loving me enough to adopt me into your family. Help me to learn your ways and to live them out each and every day. It is through Jesus that I pray all these things, Amen.
