What's your addiction? If you don't have any, then you are a person to be envied. That means you have a way of dealing with the pain of life that keeps you from using an addiction to suppress that pain and to find some pleasure. Paul said that we should deal with our addictive behaviors through the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and Spiritual Songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:18-19).
Drunks are drunks because they have nothing better to do with the pains of life. A Christian has the privilege of taking the pain of life to God the Father for comfort and to experience the peace and joy the Spirit of God will bring when we do that. Spirit filling is God's ministry to the defective ways we deal with pain. Every human heart hates pain and God does not want us to live with it, so he has given us the privilege of being Spirit filled.
