So You're Not Perfect ... So What?
Pottery is a meticulous art that demands all the potter’s attention. The potter’s goal is to give a magnificent shape to the clay that was formless and slimy at first. The vase in all its glory doesn’t yet exist, except in the potter’s mind.
With patience, the potter removes the residue, the lumps and bumps ... in other words, anything that makes it rough to the touch. The final product is a smooth, shiny vase, perfect in appearance and magnificently polished.
You are like this vase! Perhaps today you feel imperfect, rough, not polished at all …
But God, the divine Potter, is working to make you pure and smooth! As you can read in this verse, God says, “ ... I will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities” (the Bible, Isaiah 1:25, NIV)
It is God Himself who does this work in you. You don’t have to fear ... our God is strong, but He is compassionate, and His heart is full of love for you.
It may take some time, sometimes a lot of time, but the most important thing is God’s gaze upon His vase, His satisfaction and pleasure in the splendid work He completed!
Yes, you are His piece of art, His masterpiece. His vessel for honor as it’s written in His Word in 2 Timothy 2:21.
“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
