Sing Unto the Lord

Is there a song of thanksgiving in your heart today? Take the time to celebrate your redemption.

The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2 (ESV)

I love the story in Exodus of God parting the Red Sea and making a way out for the Israelites... it’s a great story for His people. Not so great a story for the Egyptians. Life is like that sometimes; our moments of triumph usually mean there is someone on the other side of the court, ice-rink or battlefield who stand defeated.

Following their crossing and seeing their enemies covered by the sea, Moses and the people sang a victorious song of praise to the LORD. Growing up I remember singing a song based on these verses and I still sing it occasionally when slammed and feeling cornered.

The Israelites did a lot of things wrong, but I am thankful that these eighteen verses were included in the scrolls. I love that they took time to celebrate:

You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.

His love is steadfast! He has redeemed us! And he guides us by his strength into a place where we can worship him.

Is there a song of thanksgiving in your heart today? A favorite piece of scripture put to music that you find yourself humming or singing when you come face to face with an ‘impossible’ situation? He inhabits the praises of his people. Keep singing!
