Shrinking Sunwear

Description

Learn to be clothed in righteousness and to find your joy in the Lord!

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10 ESV)

I’m a bit worried. You see, I’m about to go on a cruise . . . which should be a good thing! But I’m going somewhere tropical . . . which should be a good thing! And it’s winter here so an escape is a good thing. But I’m leaving in less than two weeks and that means I have to go upstairs and try on my summer wear.

And that’s not a good thing.

The only thing worse than trying on my shorts and bathing suits is trying them on in the dead of winter when I’m lily white and covered in stubble. The Christmas weight is still hanging around my middle and I haven’t done much on the exercise bike since Thanksgiving.

So here’s the million dollar question: Will the outfits I wore five months ago still fit? And if they don’t, where on earth do I find shorts and summer wear in the middle of a Canadian winter? Well, I don’t know where to shop for cruise wear, but I do know where to buy plastic wrap. You see, I read about a fancy spa that slathers you in oil, wraps you in plastic and then sticks you under some sort of heating device to help you shed inches. I’m wondering if it’s worth a try but I don’t want to spend the money so I may just try it at home. (I thought about calling McDonald's to see if they could spare a heating lamp or two but then decided a heating blanket would work just fine).

Crazy? Yes! But we women have been known to do oh-so-crazy things when trying to fit into outfits that shrunk in our closets. I’m not sure if I’ll actually attempt the self-wrap, but then again, should I be so wrapped up in what size I am? I say no.

After all, I am clothed in righteousness and that’s pretty fancy! And I am learning to find joy in the Lord! As for our trip, I’m sure I can find something to squeeze into . . . and if worse comes to worse . . . there’s always the plastic wrap.

Father, we thank You for the abundance in our lives. Forgive us for being so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget to praise You and live in Your joy. Help us to take care of our bodies, but not at the expense of our souls. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
