Showing Is Better than Telling

Description

Anne Graham Lotz explains how often times family, friends, and co-workers will watch what we do much more closely than they’ll listen to what we say.

But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. (1 JOHN 2:5–6)

An old farmer wanted to teach his new farmhand a lesson. He pointed out the stalls where he kept his mules, the feed bins, and the corral where he kept his prize mule. The farmer ducked under the pole fence, walked up to the mule, and stroked its neck.

The young man did the same thing—but approached the mule from behind. The mule kicked out his leg and sent the young man flying across the stall.

“Why didn’t you tell me that mule would kick?” he said.

The old farmer waited a second and then said, “Well—showin’ is better’n tellin’!”

Often family, friends, and co-workers will watch what we do much more closely than they’ll listen to what we say.

Sometimes showing is better than telling!
