Think about the standard of serving that Christ gave you and reevaluate how you serve.

Philippians 2:7-8 Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!

When I volunteer at our church I say that I “serve.” I hand out programs and pass the offering plate and I say to myself that I have served; but I really wonder who it is that has been served.

Have the people who’ve come into church been served? I suppose giving them a brochure is helpful, but couldn’t they have just picked one up themselves? And truth be told, I bet most people would be just fine if I didn’t hand them the offering plate. Who has been served?

There’s nothing wrong with being an usher, in fact there are a lot of really good things about it, but what I need to think about is the standard of serving that Christ gave us – complete humility; total submission to another’s will. I think I need to work on my serving.
