Self-Discipline

Description

True self-discipline is not self-oriented at all; it is God-oriented.

“Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline, but he who regards reproof will be honored ” (Proverbs 13:18)

In the natural order of things, God designed us to be disciplined people. The lack of self-discipline usually leads to all kinds of problems: debt, obesity, bad health -- to name a few.

Self-discipline can’t be limited to one’s “self ” or even to standards of society. If the majority of people are self-indulgent, instead of self-disciplined, does that make the lack of discipline acceptable? God’s Word says it does not.

True self-discipline is not self-oriented at all; it is God-oriented. “Cease listening, my son, to discipline, and you will stray from words of knowledge” (Proverbs 19:27).

Only by knowing and applying God’s self-discipline can a Christian be free and, therefore, receptive to God’s direction.
