Seek Understanding

If God has given us His word, trust the Holy Spirit to make it available to us to understand.

2 Peter 1:19 (NIV®)

We have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place.

I hear people say, “I just don’t pay much attention to that prophetic stuff. I can’t even pronounce those Old Testament names. And in the New Testament, what about the Book of Revelation? There are all kinds of scary creatures. It’s confusing. So I’m going to focus on the main thing. I just want to know how to go to heaven instead of hell.” I understand where those ideas come from, and I’ll admit that understanding prophecy is challenging. But if God has given it to us, and He’s told us to pay attention to it, I trust Him and the Holy Spirit to make it available to each and every one of us. I would invite you to not just ignore it, but to say to the Lord, “I would like to understand.” And let’s see what God will reveal to you.

Heavenly Father, I know that every word of Scripture is true and given for my benefit. Give me insight and understanding of the parts that are not clear to me. Show me what You want me to know from Your Word, Lord, that I may apply it to my heart and life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
