Secure in His Hands

God promises that you are safe and secure in His hand and heart. NO ONE can take you from Him!

'My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one can snatch them out of my hand.’  (John 10:27-28)

Have you ever lost something precious? If you have, you’ll know what a sense of panic can arise as we desperately hunt for it, hoping we might find it, yet fearful that we may never see it again, that it may simply be gone for good.

Some people get just as fearful of losing their relationship with God. Such fears normally arise, either when things have got on top of us, or when we have committed some sin ‘just once too often’ (as we might put it), or when we have fallen back into some sinful habit that used to be part of our life before we became a Christian. At such times the devil is all too ready to whisper in our ears, ‘That’s it! You’ve lost your salvation now! God will never forgive you now!’ And all too often we believe him.

At such times it is so important to listen to God’s promises rather than to the devil’s lies. Again and again, God has promised to keep safe those who have committed their lives to him. The reason he can make such a rock-solid promise is quite simple: it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with him! Our salvation – whether our initial salvation or our ongoing salvation – is all about Christ and what he did for us on the cross through his once-for-all sacrifice. Nothing can be added to that, and nothing can be taken away from that. That is why we can be secure; that is why we can be certain that nothing can snatch us out of his hands; for it isn’t about us, but about him!

Today, if you have been fearful that you have lost your salvation, or if you are worrying that some circumstance could wrench you from God’s hand, take heart! The promise of God is: you are safe and secure! And no one can take you from him!

‘And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.’  (John 6:39)
