Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. (Ephesians 4:29-31 ESV)
After waiting in my car for over an hour in the bay of our local oil change franchise, I was dismayed and rather annoyed to hear they couldn’t do the oil change due to a special undercarriage skid plate that blocked access. The manufacturer installed the plate to protect the fragile oil pan and other parts, but also used a special nut that does not fit your neighborhood mechanic’s standard wrench set. I guess they wanted work done only by dealership servicers. They kept everybody else out.
Which is a problem because there was gook and dirty oil that needed to be drained and replaced.
We Christians are sealed too . . . by our Maker. And we get gook and grime in our lives that needs to be cleaned out. But, thankfully, we don’t have to run around looking for someone who has the right tools to set us free of our sins and dirt! We can just hit our knees and the Lord will loosen the bolts of our hearts and release it all! Praise God! No lineups or disappointments – He always is ready to do the work that needs to be done.
Father, we thank You that You don’t leave us without a way out. That You give us all we need to break free of our pasts. Thank You, Lord for meeting us where we are and emptying us of all our dirt and grime and filling us with Your fresh Holy Spirit! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
