Season of Peace
God desires to shower His divine peace on us. He says in Jeremiah 33:8-9: "I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it."
God wants us to experience peace -- no matter what our circumstances. That doesn't mean our lives will be easy and carefree. But we can experience a wholeness of our being, even when circumstances crumble around us. We can find harmony and tranquility in our spirit, even when conflict surrounds us. When we have divine peace we realize that external forces do not define us; what defines us is our reconciled relationship with God.
Once we have true peace with God, this encompassing peace will spill over into every aspect of our lives. Only when we know God's peace can we have peace with ourselves and with others.
During this season of peace, we will not find inner fulfillment by receiving everything on our Christmas wish list. We will not find everlasting contentment in the holiday decorations and lights. We won't experience complete well-being by eating a Christmas feast. The one true gift that we need is God's abiding peace.
Prayer: God, thank You for Your divine, abiding peace that I can have today, no matter what is happening around me. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).
