Santiago and Princess salvage usable items from the debris of their family home in the Philippines after it was destroyed by Typhoon Haima.

Santiago’s classes started, but he wasn’t there.

“I wanted to go to school, but all my clothes were soaked. All my school materials were damaged when our house collapsed,” he says.

Instead of going to school, he went with his mother and sister to pick through the debris of their home looking for salvageable items.

The bright spot of their day came when they received boxes of relief good – bedding, mosquito nets, soap, toothbrushes and other hygiene items, cookpots – from World Vision.

Elena, the children’s mom, smiled as she carried the boxes back to the shelter where they are staying. Santiago smiled, too. Princess excitedly opened boxes while other family members gathered around to see what they had received.
