School for Chan

In Myanmar, Chan Myae Aung, 13, is a dedicated student who finished his 7th grade exams. When his father had a stroke and was no longer able to support the family, Chan and his grandmother feared that his education had come to an end.

Chan works hard in school and around the house, helping his grandmother with housework and cooking. He also works at a relative’s store.

“I had no worries when my father worked. But our family started to face problems after my father had no income. I sometimes did not get pocket money and sometimes could not pay the fees asked from the school,” Chan shares.

“I do not want to drop out of school. I want to study until I become a doctor so that I can cure my father and my grandma,” Chan shared.

Chan is registered in World Vision’s sponsorship program, so staff will see that he has school fees and supplies. They are looking for ways to help the family earn a living, perhaps raising pigs, so that Chan won’t have to work.
