Saying NO to What Is Good
And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. - 1 Kings 19:12
It takes no explanation for anyone to understand that we live in a fast paced world and anyone whispering probably isn't going to be heard. There is so much time and energy spent cramming as much as we can possibly get into every single day. There is so much expectation for our children to perform well in every activity. Pressures at work, pressures at home, pressures in online communities; tack on the fact that our brains are becoming accustomed to being entertained 95% of the time, and we will miss anything God has to say; especially if it’s a still small voice!!
So - what are we to do? After all - the bulk of our days are spent accomplishing what HAS to be done. We are brilliant at sacrificing the long term needs for the immediate ones…
The answer is a simple one. Say no to what is good to make room for what is best. If we aren’t deliberate about setting time aside to spend with our Savior - we will eventually fall apart at the seams. On top of being deliberate - we must protect that time like our lives depend on it - because they truly do depend on that life line.
Prayer: Oh, dear God - what have we done? What a mess we’ve made! Give us the strength and resolve to protect our time with you. Renew us, fill us… may we long for those sweet moments with you more than any others in our day! May it become a lifestyle that we live out the rest of our lives. We cannot do this without You. Thank you God for calling us out of the chaos, into the PEACE of your ways! Amen.
