“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Matthew 4:19b-20
I am rarely ready for what the day has in store. Who is ever ready? I’m not any different than you. I want the house to be organized and the kids to be clean and nicely dressed, and I want dinner to come out of the oven on time. But at the end of the day, the laundry is still in piles and there are still crumbs in the corner and can anyone remember if I brushed my teeth today?
Thankfully, God doesn’t need us to be ready for Him. He has been ready for us since the beginning of time. The Messiah is here, calling us to commune with the Holy One, to eat at His table. He doesn’t need more time. He is the author of time.
So many times we feel God nudging us, but we don’t think we are ready to take that step. We think we need more experience, more confirmation, more money, more answers, but when will we ever feel ready? This is why it is called faith. If God has put something on your heart, and it is not going away, and you are bathing it in prayer, and you are soaking in Scripture and it continues to persist, say yes and take that first step. It’s not about having an extraordinary plan or knowing the path. Too often we spend our lives praying and waiting, when we need to drop our nets, take that first step and follow Him.
