Saved Through Fire
God gives a probing examination along with a Rock Solid Salvation. God is remarkably honest as well as remarkably gracious. When he rewards us for what we have done with our Christian life, his examination of our works is compared to a fire that can burn away the lazy and thoughtless service we sometimes offer. Our works can be as valuable as silver and gold or as valueless as hay and stubble. Based on their value, we will receive a reward.
If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire. (1Cor 3:14-15)
But when it comes to our sins and outright rebellion, it is the direct opposite. We have a Rock Solid Salvation based on Christ's death and God's grace. When it comes to our works, their quality determines our reward. When it comes to salvation, the quality of Christ and his work nullifies our sin and secures our safety. That is why the end of the verse says we are saved yet as through the fire that Paul mentioned.
Amazing God pays us a wage for our good work, and forgives us our worthless sins.
