Sanctified Soul Settings

Description

Lori Dixon shares how she reset her soul and wrapped her mind around what life in the Spirit should look like.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5 ESV)

Beth Moore has a wonderful scripture memorization group that ‘meets’ twice a month on the LivingProof Blog. Now, it’s got a strange name, ‘Siesta Scripture Memorization Team’ – blame autocorrect – but beyond the disconcerting title, it’s a great group of women!

Anyhow, I chose Romans 8:5 to be my first verse of the year.  It was an easy pick.

You see, the past few months I’ve been battling killing off the flesh of my thoughts. No, it wasn’t as if I was dwelling or thinking ‘unclean’ thoughts but I was allowing unsanctified thoughts to rule! Mercy! Somewhere, with the busyness of life, I had stopped walking in the victory and truth that I teach! (What should I say then? Don’t do what I do but do rather what I say? – God forbid!)

Matthew Henry’ commentary has this to say about this passage from Romans: A sanctified soul is a living soul; and that life is peace.

I don’t know about you, but I had the setting on my soul wrong. Perhaps I bumped it when I was rushing out the door one day, but it was not set for sanctification! I was not a life at peace!

When life seems to be spinning out of control, we need to stop and reset. We would never allow our washing machine to rumble and rock uncontrollably due to an imbalance or improper setting, so why on earth do we let our lives toss us around so?

For me, it required me to fall to my knees and dwell (and I do mean dwell) in Romans 8 until I had reset my soul setting to sanctified! Once I had my head wrapped around what life in the Spirit should look like, I could then untangled fleshly fears and the peace came.

What’s got your life rocking? Stop the stinkin’ thinkin’ and reset your mind to His sanctified soul setting!

Father, forgive us for rocking and rolling through life, being tossed to and fro. Help us to hear Your voice telling the storms to ‘be still’ and teach us to surrender our restless, fearful minds to the Truth found in who we are in You. For You have not given us a spirit of fear and we are more than conquerors! Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Burn your Word into our hearts and minds that we can throw it at the enemy and allow Your Spirit to rule and control the settings in our life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
