This contrast between absolute omnipotence and a little lamb shows how profoundly and wonderfully Jesus Christ stooped to raise us to Heaven.

Paradox upon paradox is what we discover in the Bible. Scripture tells us in John 1:1-3 that it was the Son of God who created everything. Hebrews 1:3 tells us, he the Son holds everything together by a short utterance from his power. Yet shockingly God the Son can choose to be incredibly weak, weak as a lamb. For that is how he is described in Heaven.

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." (Rev 7:9-10)

The Greek word for lamb is a little lamb. So Christ on the cross was like a little defenseless lamb. Yet at the same time he is the God who created angels, universes, and humanity. His infinite stoop raised us up across the infinite distances of the universe to a home in Heaven.
