Romans 6

A tour of Romans 6 with Ken Boa.

Romans presents Christ as the Savior and Redeemer whose atoning work on the cross has made it possible for God to “be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (3:26). He is the second Adam whose obedience has overcome the sin and separation wrought by the disobedience of the first Adam (5:12-21). It is though our identification with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection that we enjoy freedom from the dominion of sin and newness of life (6:1-23). The reality of union with Christ is the basis for the spiritual walk. Believers must know their position in Christ, regard it as true, and present themselves to God as dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Paul views devotion as a response to spiritual truth, not as a condition of it.

Lord, I acknowledge by faith that I have been united with Your Son in His death, burial, and resurrection, and that in Christ I am no longer a slave to sin. I present myself to You as one alive from the dead, and my members as instruments of righteousness to You.
