Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 ESV)
A friend recently posted on Facebook some amazing photos of a crystal blue lake and breathtaking waterfall. Not aware that she had left town, I sent her a private message inquiring where the family had gone. She quickly responded that they were only an hour away and were enjoying the tranquil spot even as she typed! Shocked that such a picturesque place was so nearby, I asked her to send the directions.
When someone starts off their instructions with ‘LOL’ you just know it’s not a good thing.
Just because it was nearby did not mean it was accessible; their jeep had to commandeer a logging road with fallen tree trunks, shallow rivers and other hazards in order to reach the summit where this piece of heaven lay.
I closed my laptop in dismay, knowing that we didn’t have a vehicle that could manage the expedition.
Our walk with Christ is also not without hazards and bumps along our journey. Some people say that being a Christian is a crutch. These people clearly have not read Paul’s testimony of receiving forty lashes less one – five times – for his profession of faith in Christ. Choosing to follow Christ does not mean that our life will be without hazards along the way, but then again, the reward of knowing Him on earth and living out eternity in heaven is well worth the journey!
Father, forgive us for grumbling and complaining when things fall across our paths. Help us to remain steadfast in our walk with You and may we never turn around or stray when faced with the hazards of life.
