Richer than You Think

Are you full of thanksgiving or complaints? Begin cultivating an attitude of gratitude by writing down 5 things you’re thankful for today.

Which of the following words describe you? Thankful or ungrateful. I’ve been studying the life of the Israelites recently, and have to admit that although I’m not physically wandering in the desert; my attitude has often mirrored theirs – one of grumbling and complaining.

My pride tries to convince me that I’m entitled to certain things – like a comfortable home and 3 meals a day.

Sobering Statistics

Currently, the richest 1 percent of the world own as much collective wealth as the bottom 57 percent combined. – Jeff Shinabarger; More or Less: Choosing a Lifestyle of Excessive Generosity

Did you know you’re in the top 14.93 percent of the richest people in the world if you make $2,500 a year? Yes, you read that correctly! According to “The Global Rich List,” which quantifies salary in contrast to the whole world, you’re considered wealthy with yearly earnings of $2,500.

Tons to be Thankful For: With Jesus, I Have More Than Enough

The truth is my gratitude shouldn’t be tied to what I have, but rather to who I am in Christ. (Tweet this) Here are just a few reasons I can be thankful today:

*He created me

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:3

*He saved me

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

*He’s full of mercy

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

*He hears and answers my prayers

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. Psalm 34:17

*He has a purpose for my life

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

*He’ll finish the work He started in me

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

*Every day He blesses me with more than I need

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. Psalm 68:19

And the list could go on and on. The bottom line? I have A LOT to be thankful for!  I like the way one author put it:

An attitude of gratitude is one sure sign your heart is crucified to pride and selfishness and willing to acknowledge all that God is and does in your life.  -James McDonald

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the great God you are! Forgive me for complaining. I have so much to thank You for – salvation, Your grace and mercy, Your protection, the way You meet all of my needs. Help me be a person who is quick to praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
