Reward from Painful Places

We’re cautioned not to throw away our confidence, because many do. Don't forfeit your reward.

Hebrews 10:35 (NIV®)

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

If we’re cautioned not to throw away our confidence, it’s because many do. It’s very plain language that if you cast away your confidence—if you throw it away, if you abandon the process early—you will forfeit your reward. And there’s a phrase here—to me, the language is so gentle it’s as if the Lord Himself put His hand on your shoulder and mine and said—“You need to persevere.”

“I don’t want to.”

“I know. But you need to persevere.”

“But I’m tired.”

“You need to persevere.”

“But it’s not fair.”

“You need to persevere.”

Why? Because when struggles and disasters come, and they surely will, only an Almighty God can bring a reward from those painful places. Don’t give up your confidence. Trust the Lord. Cry out to Him. He is faithful.

Heavenly Father, thank You for caring about my well-being. Show me Your will for me, and help me to do it. I am trusting You to fulfill Your promises to me, Lord, because You are faithful in all things. In Jesus’ name, amen.
