“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts.” Romans 5:5 (nasb)
I hosted a book club in my home a while back. One time, a lady joined our group who hadn’t been there before. Her name was Kim, and she was in a wheelchair.
We had a special time of prayer for her, but before that, I asked her to tell us her story. The details she related pierced my heart because I could so closely identify with her life—her life before, that is. She was in her late thirties, with four children, a teaching job she loved and a very active life. Basically overnight, because of lupus, she became paralyzed from about her ribcage down.
The horror of Kim’s story as she related it was almost too much to bear. I believe it would have been too much for her to bear had it not been over-shadowed by her hope that God works all things together for the good— even things like this. Kim went on to tell us about a new ministry the Lord had opened up for her at school: She listens to students’ problems and offers them hope in their lives. She said even those in the most desperate situations will look at her in her wheelchair and listen when she shares with them the hope she has in Jesus.
As sisters in Christ, we have agreed with Kim to pray for a miracle—that her body be restored. But meanwhile, it’s a beautiful thing to witness the miracle Jesus has wrought—and keeps nurturing in her spirit. What a difference hope in Him makes!
FAITH STEP: Are you looking for a miracle today? Perhaps the miracle God has for you is to give you more of Jesus in your inner life, even as He restores the outward things that concern you, in His time and His way.Written by Gwen Ford Faulkenberry
